‘SNL’ skit sees Miles Teller poke fun at Trump’s White House renovations

A skit, fronted by Miles Teller, in the latest episode of Saturday Night Live took on Donald Trump’s latest renovations of the White House.

In the skit, Miles Teller stars as both Drew Scott, a real estate expert, and his twin brother, Jonathan, a contractor. “This week, we’re taking on our biggest challenge yet: Building the new White House ballroom.”

The brothers help Trump and his wife, Melania, played by James Austin Johnson and Chloe Fineman, with their construction challenge. Outside of the world of make-believe, the ballroom is being financed by companies like Apple, Amazon, and Google, and will cost around $300 million.

In character, Trump says, “It’s important to be happy. Some really dark stuff happening in the world. Some of it me.” He is also seen putting up a picture of himself as a soldier from the video game Halo.

When asked what his budget was, Trump said it is “between $350 million and infinity.” Teller quotes Trump, who told him in the show, “I could build this ballroom with the bones of my enemies and no one could stop me.”

Later, Trump requests an MMA ring because he “loves bum fights.” He runs Teller through an “inspo board” which includes a picture of Vladimir Putin, whom he deems “a great guy”. However, construction hits a bump in the road when “Donald realises he had deported all of the construction workers.”

When Melania cheerfully deems the White House her “forever home”, Trump agrees, saying, “We’re not leaving because we’re going to be doing something called coup.” Instead of paying for the work, Trump calls ICE to deport the Canadian brothers, in a nod to Trump’s escalating crackdown on immigration.

SNL are not alone in parodying the White House demolition. Recently, the latest South Park episode has tackled his decision to demolish part of the White House to make his own ballroom.
