Slowthai returns with new single ‘ENEMY’

Slowthai has announced his return in fiery fashion with his new song ‘ENEMY’.

The intense track starts with Matty Healy joking about him at the NME awards and the laughter from the audience following his disastrous appearance which resulted in a public apology for his behaviour towards host Katherine Ryan. The musician discusses the reaction to the incident in question in the track with a robotic voice announcing in the song: “Slowthai, you have officially been cancelled. C**t.”

The following day after the awards Slowthai issued an apology to Ryan via Twitter. “NME please forward my award to Katherine Ryan, for she is the hero of the year,” he wrote. “What started as a joke between us escalated to a point of shameful actions on my part. I want to unreservedly apologise, there is no excuse and I am sorry. I am not a hero.

“Katherine, you are a master at your craft and next time I’ll take my seat and leave the comedy to you. To any woman or man who saw a reflection of situations they’ve been in in those videos, I am sorry. I promise to do better. Let’s talk here.”

For such an honest artist, it is no surprise that he has taken to address the fallout from the incident in the form of his music. This is his first solo material since the release of his Mercury-nominated 2019 debut Nothing Great About Britain.
