slowthai issues an apology and says 'Hero' award should go to Katherine Ryan

Following last night’s shameful actions rapper slowthai has taken to his Twitter account today to issue an apology to host Katherine Ryan and suggest the ‘Hero’ award he received to be forwarded on to her.

During the NME awards show, last night slowthai was presented with NME’s ‘Hero of the Year’ award and when accepting the award acted more than inappropriately towards host and comedian Katherine Ryan.

Ryan, poised throughout, had much of her personal space encroached upon by the rapper with slowthai consistently make lewd and distasteful references towards her. It led to a member of the audience calling him a misogynist during his acceptance speech.

It soon escalated as glasses began flying on and off stage before the rapper eventually jumped into the audience to begin brawling with the audience member. It all ended as slowthai was escorted from the event.

Now, it appears the artist has viewed back his behaviour during the proceedings and has issued an apology not only to Ryan but “to any woman or man who saw a reflection of situations they’ve been in in those videos”

He wrote on Twitter: “NME please forward my award to [Katherine Ryan] for she is the hero of the year. what started as a joke between us escalated to a point of shameful actions on my part. i want to unreservedly apologise, there is no excuse and I am sorry. i am not a hero.”

The message continued: “katherine, you are a master at your craft and next time i’ll take my seat and leave the comedy to you. to any woman or man who saw a reflection of situations they’ve been in in those videos, i am sorry. i promise to do better. let’s talk here.”

The comedian has since replied to the statement saying: “I knew you were joking and congratulations on your very award-worthy album! I hope you know that a bad day on social media passes so quickly. Everything will be better tomorrow. Xx”
