Six hospitalised following Angine de Poitrine set at Montreal Jazz Festival
Six fans were taken to the hospital after Angine de Poitrine performed a huge free concert this weekend in Montreal, Canada.
The polkadot-clad duo took to the stage on June 27th in the Jean-Mance Street–Sainte-Catherine Street, which reportedly attracted hundreds of thousands of spectators.
Local news outlet CTV News reports it was the highest-attended set at the long-running Montreal Jazz Festival since Stevie Wonder in 2009.
However, as is not out of the ordinary for events of this size, there were hospitalisations. According to Urgences-Sante, they received ten calls between 10pm and 12am, with six of those attendees being admitted to the hospital.
Additionally, a further five contacted emergency services due to heat stroke, but refused treatment from medical experts.
Urgences-Sante’s spokesperson, Benjamin Dansereau-Leclerc, explained to CTV News that it is normal for them to have paramedics on hand for an event of this magnitude, revealing they received calls from concertgoers who were suffering from falls, intoxication and other medical problems. He insisted none of the issues was life-threatening.
“We do that for the biggest concerts, it happens,” Dansereau-Leclerc added, before stating, “It’s not unusual but we’re prepared for that.”
Benjamin Dansereau-Leclerc also maintained they receive a similar number of calls for festivals like Osheaga and confirmed they plan with event organisers for these matters ahead of time.
The huge crowd attracted by Angie de Poutrine speaks volumes about their current level of popularity, which has skyrocketed in recent months, and even led to a fake version of the band playing a one-off show in Moscow, Russia.
With that in mind, getting a ticket to any of their upcoming shows will be a difficult task, Angine de Poitrine are set to return to the UK and Ireland later this year.
They will perform at Psych Fest in both Edinburgh and Manchester in September, as well as End of the Road in Dorset. Then, in October, they will visit Leeds, Glasgow, Dublin and Bristol before playing two dates at The Troxy in London.
In a glowing four-and-a-half-star review of their latest release, Vol II, Far Out observed, “Amid the microtonal menagerie is searing originality that deserves to be applauded in an age where human ingenuity is supposedly under threat. Vol II knocks that notion to the moon with startling silliness and laughable virtuosity.”
