‘The Simpsons Movie 2’ official release date announced

The Simpsons Movie 2 has been given an official release date of July 23rd, 2027.

The film has been announced following a 20-year hiatus since the original movie was released in cinemas.

The announcement seems to raise more questions than answers, as it has replaced an untitled upcoming Marvel project, which has subsequently been removed from Disney’s upcoming schedule. There was originally supposed to be a new comic book instalment in-between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, but this will no longer occur.

Disney haven’t confirmed any details for the upcoming sequel, all fans have to go off is the poster, which shows a pink donut being stolen with the tagline “Homer’s coming back for seconds.”

The movie is one of a number of new Simpsons projects which will be released in coming years. The longest running animation of all time shows no signs of slowing down, as it has also been renowned for its 40th anniversary, which will air during 2028 and 2029.

The sequel follows the original Simpsons Movie which was released in July 2007. It was a commercial success, making $536million at the box office with a budget of $75million. The studio has been in talks of a sequel for years now, with it finally coming to fruition.

The Simpsons showrunner Matt Selman has confirmed that he believes there is still a demand for the show, which has been helped along by streaming. “Now instead of the kids watching it on local TV in the afternoon, they can just watch it all, all the time, all day, all forever,” he said, “Being on Disney+ has been somewhat rejuvenating for us. Not that we realised we needed rejuvenation, but we appreciate it.”

The Simpsons Movie 2 will be released on July 23rd, 2027.
