Simon Bird and Amy Adams join ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ cast

Simon Bird and Amy Adams are the latest to join the cast of the upcoming movie Star Wars: Starfighter alongside Ryan Gosling and Mia Goth.

Starfighter will be the first Star Wars feature since The Rise of Skywalker debuted in 2019. This feature will focus on new characters in the universe and is set roughly half a decade after Star Wars: Episode IX—The Rise of Skywalker.

Lucasfilm have now announced that The Inbetweeners star Bird and Adams are joining the line-up. With this announcement, it is also confirmed that production has begun in England.

Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy is directing the 2027 release. In April of this year, Levy managed expectations for the movie. He said, “This is a standalone. It’s not a prequel, not a sequel. It’s a new adventure. It’s set in a period of time that we haven’t seen explored yet.”

At the same event, Gosling said: “The force is a mysterious thing, but, as I’m here, the force is the fans. All we can hope for is, ‘May the fans be with us.”

Gosling will play a character who “must protect his young nephew against evil pursuers.” His young nephew will be played by Flynn Gray.

Goth will play a villain in pursuit of Gosling. Originally, Anora star Mikey Madison was lined up for the role, but the star reportedly turned down the opportunity once she met with the team, deciding it was not the right project for her. Madison instead chose A24’s Masque of the Red Death as her next project

Jonathan Tropper is the screenwriter behind the film. Tropper has previously worked alongside Levy, including on films such as ‘The Adam Project’ and ‘This Is Where I Leave You’. He is also behind the Apple TV+ series ‘Your Friends & Neighbors’.
