Sheryl Crow attacks Donald Trump on political new single ‘The New Normal’

Country-pop singer Sheryl Crow has launched a scathing attack on Donald Trump and the state of the world on her new single, ‘The New Normal’.

The new release is courtesy of Crow and The Lowdown, her touring band. On the effort, she laments the modern landscape with Trump in the White House and artificial intelligence seemingly taking over society.

On the dystopian future that seemingly awaits civilisation, Crow sings on ‘The New Normal’, “Punch the clock and walk away, While you have a job and while that job still pays, It’s a way you’re gonna wake up some day to a robot that’s in your place/Like all the predictions say.”

She also addresses the recent story that made headlines earlier this year regarding US start-up Colossal Biosciences and their plans to bring a variety of animals back from extinction. Crow sings, “Wooly mammoth’s on his way, Back in time to watch us leave for space, It’s a race, Not every human race.”

Crow also saved a portion of the song for a not-so-subtle swipe at Trump. She sings, “If the news is fake and fear is hate, And nothing’s immoral to the leader of the free world, Then, welcome to the new normal”.

Explaining the song, Crow said in a press release: “What’s happening all around us is so unbelievably bizarre, that my fear is we will truly begin to feel like this is normal. And that’s what terrifies me.”

The track marks a new chapter for Crow as she integrates her touring band, The Lowdown, into her recorded work. The video captures them together on the road, and in her statement, Crow is full of praise for her bandmates, sharing, “I am so blessed to have the band that I have. For years, we have jammed up such cool stuff during sound checks that we decided we go in and start recording as a band. Can’t wait for everyone to hear the new stuff we are doing.”

Meanwhile, in September, Crow is set to join Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson on the road for the final leg of their Outlaw Music Festival, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year.
