Fountains of Wayne have recruited Sharon Van Etten to join them as they pay tribute to their late bandmate, Adam Schlesinger, who died suddenly a few weeks ago after suffering complications relating to coronavirus.
Fountains of Wayne will reunite for their first performance in over seven years for the JERSEY 4 JERSEY coronavirus relief benefit concert on April 22 where Sharon Van Etten, will be on bass and backing vocals duty. Bruce Springsteen, SZA, Bon Jovi, Halsey, and more artists will also perform at the benefit where all proceeds will go towards the New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund.
Fountains of Wayne’s Chris Collingwood has said in a statement: “Brian, Jody and I are honoured to be part of the Jersey 4 Jersey benefit, and grateful that Sharon was able to perform with us. Adam would have been proud that Fountains were helping to raise money for fellow New Jerseyans.”
“As a New Jersey native, it means so much to me to participate in the NJPRF charitable event that gives back to this community,” Van Etten said in a statement. “Adam was an incredible songwriter and I am truly humbled to join Fountains of Wayne in his honour.”
The continued: “New Jersey is on the front lines of this pandemic, making it more important than ever for us to do what Jersey does best – take care of one another,” said New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy. “That’s why we’re asking everyone in our state to join the NJPRF and some of New Jersey’s finest for some much-needed musical entertainment, levity and Jersey Pride during these unprecedented times.”
Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong has also paid tribute Schlesinger by covering ‘That Thing You Do!’, the track is taken from the film of the same name of which the Fountains Of Wayne leader provided the soundtrack for.
