Shane MacGowan’s wife expresses “terrifying fear of loss” in concerning new health update
Victoria Mary Clarke, spouse of singer-songwriter Shane MacGowan, has provided a worrisome health update regarding her husband, detailing their current situation.
Clarke expressed “facing terrifying fears of loss that can feel so big and devastating” in a new Instagram post which includes an image of her sharing a kiss with McGowan in a hospital bed.
The 65-year-old vocalist from The Pogues has faced a string of health challenges in the past year, including a Christmas hospitalisation due to the rare brain condition encephalitis.
Despite an extended hospital stay, MacGowan seems to be in high spirits, with visits from special celebrity guests and regular updates on his recovery provided by his wife.
In a long, heartfelt Instagram post, Clarke shared her latest concerns with regards to her husband, stating that love is “the most beautiful and powerful thing.”
She wrote: “Sometimes when you love very deeply you will find yourself facing terrifying fears of loss that can feel so big and devastating that you don’t know how you can survive them and you can’t imagine life without this person that you love.”
Adding: “Fear is an unknown place and this is what makes it so frightening, we make up stories about what is beyond the fear, and they are not happy stories. But we can choose to stay present with everything that unfolds and to feel as much as possible in every moment.”
The writer, recognised for her spiritual convictions and reflective nature, mentioned that she is actively engaged in “[expanding] your consciousness beyond the limitations of your mind… discover more of who you really are and more of who your soul really is and more of your connection with this person who you love.”
She finished: “Stay tuned in to love no matter what is happening in your world and keep inviting all of your angels and guides to support you and know that love is always the best choice.”
Earlier in the year, Clarke also shared her feelings towards fear, explaining that while there is a lot of it, there is “also a huge amount of love.”
She concluded by thanking fans for supporting her and her husband, adding that it’s a challenge to remain present, but the heartfelt messages are a huge help during such a difficult time.
