Sentencing of Jonathan Majors delayed after guilty verdict

Creed star Jonathan Majors, who was set to be sentenced on February 6th following a domestic violence conviction, will now discover his fate at a later date.

On December 18th, a six-person jury in New York found Majors guilty of reckless assault in the third degree and guilty of a further charge of harassment of Grace Jabbari. Following the delivery of the verdict, Majors was dropped by Marvel, and Searchlight Pictures ditched plans to distribute his nmovie, Magazine Dreams.

Furthermore, Majors was also set to star in an Otis Redding biopic, a Dennis Rodman biopic, and The Man in My Basement. However, going forward, he will no longer be involved in any of the three projects mentioned.

According to People, the reasoning for the delayed sentencing is related to “a slew of post-conviction motions” filed by the lawyers representing Majors. As of yet, no new date has been announced for the sentencing.

During the trial, which took 14 days, Majors decided against taking to the stand and refused to speak about the case while it was ongoing.

However, on January 6th, Majors broke his silence by appearing on Good Morning America. He told host Linsey Davis: “I’m standing there and the verdict comes down. I say, ‘How is that possible based off the evidence, based off the prosecution’s evidence, let alone our evidence? How is that possible?’”

While reflecting on the moment he was found guilty, Majors said he was left “shocked and afraid”.

The Creed III star also said in the interview: “I’m an athlete. I’m a sportsman. I know my body. I know how it moves. I know my strength, or lack thereof, you know? None of that was employed on her.”

Majors faces a maximum prison sentence of one year, but due to the actor not having any previous convictions on his record, he may not be incarcerated.
