Searchlight drop Jonathan Majors movie ‘Magazine Dreams’ following guilty verdict

After Creed III star Jonathan Majors was found guilty by a jury of committing assault and harassment, Searchlight has dropped his new movie, Magazine Dreams.

The film, written and directed by Elijah Bynum, was set to be distributed by Searchlight Pictures, a subsidiary of Disney. However, in December, Magazine Dreams was removed from Disney’s release schedule.

Now, The Hollywood Reporter have revealed Searchlight have returned the rights of the movie to the producers, meaning they’ll have to find another film distribution company to get it back out there.

The actor was found guilty of assaulting and harassing his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, on December 18th. After the news was announced, Majors was dropped from several projects he was set to work on, such as an Otis Redding biopic, a Dennis Rodman biopic, and The Man in My Basement.

Marvel also dropped the actor, who was set to reprise his role as Kang the Conqueror in Avengers: Secret Wars and Avengers: Kang Dynasty.

Reacting to his guilty verdict, Majors told ABC News, “I’m standing there and the verdict comes down. I say, ‘How is that possible based off the evidence, based off the prosecution’s evidence, let alone our evidence? How is that possible?'”

He also added, defending himself, “I’m an athlete. I’m a sportsman. I know my body. I know how it moves. I know my strength, or lack thereof, you know? None of that was employed on her.”

In response to his interview, Jabbari’s attorney, Brittany Henderson, said in a statement: “The timing of these new statements demonstrates a clear lack of remorse for the actions for which he was found guilty and should make the sentencing decisions fairly easy for the court.”

Majors is set to be sentenced on February 6th.
