Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ legal team file new $50 million bail request ahead of sentencing

The legal team for Sean ‘Diddy‘ Combs have submitted a new legal filing on July 29th, requesting that the rapper be released on a $50 million bail package while awaiting sentencing.

Following an eight-week trial, which concluded early this month, Combs was found not guilty of racketeering conspiracy and not guilty of sex trafficking charges. However, he was found guilty of two prostitution-related counts under the Mann Act.

The two guilty counts of prostitution transportation each carry a maximum sentence of ten years in prison. He is set to be sentenced on October 3rd, 2025.

A defendant who has been convicted under the Mann Act can only be bailed before sentencing if there are “exceptional” circumstances. Additionally, their defence is required to prove their client is not a future danger or flight risk.

Now, Combs’ lawyers have filed a lawsuit seeking bail. In the document, they explain why they claim the case should be considered “exceptional” and proposed a $50 million bail package, which would be secured by his Miami mansion.

Combs’ defence states in the new filing: “The prosecution and continued incarceration of Sean Combs are unique in the history of the Mann Act. There has literally never been a case like this one, where a person and his girlfriend arranged for adult men to have consensual sexual relations with the adult long-term girlfriend as part of a demonstrated ‘swingers’ lifestyle and has been prosecuted and incarcerated under the Mann Act.”

The filing also claims that Combs doesn’t pose a future danger, stating, “Also, prior to his arrest in this case, Mr. Combs enrolled in a domestic violence program, in which he participated until he was arrested and incarcerated in connection with this case”.

As part of the proposed bail package, seen by Far Out, Combs would reside in his Miami home, and his travel would be limited to the Southern District of Florida, the Southern District of New York for attorney meetings, as well as airports necessary to travel between the two locations.

Following the jury verdict on July 2nd, Combs had a previous bid for bail denied by Judge Arun Subramanian, who highlighted that his defence had admitted to domestic violence against Cassie Ventura. Subramanian told the New York courtroom: “This type of violence, which happens behind closed doors in personal relationships, sparked by unpredictable bouts of anger, is impossible to police with condition.”

Combs has been detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since he was arrested in September 2024.
