Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs denied $50 million bail ahead of sentencing

Sean ‘Diddy‘ Combs has been denied bail before his sentencing later this year. Judge Arun Subramanian made his ruling on August 4th, marking the fifth time the rapper has been rejected since his arrest.

Subramanian stated the court must “find by clear and convincing evidence that the person is not likely to flee or pose a danger to the safety of any other person or the community if released,” deciding that Combs posed a risk of “flight or danger.”

According to People, he added the conditions would be “‘exceptional reasons’ warranting release where it was undisputed that the defendant posed no risk of flight or danger, and where ‘unique circumstances’ counselled release, including the defendant’s advanced ‘age and serious medical conditions, which require care that the MDC may not be able to provide.'”

Combs’ legal team initially filed the $50 million bail request last week, proposing that he reside at his Miami mansion, which would also be used as his bond.

“The prosecution and continued incarceration of Sean Combs are unique in the history of the Mann Act,” they wrote. “There has literally never been a case like this one, where a person and his girlfriend arranged for adult men to have consensual sexual relations with the adult long-term girlfriend as part of a demonstrated ‘swingers’ lifestyle and has been prosecuted and incarcerated under the Mann Act.”

His ex-girlfriend, Virginia ‘Gina’ Huynh, known as ‘Victim-3’ in his indictment, even pushed for his release.

“I am writing because I do not view Mr Combs as a danger to me or to the community,” she said. “This is his first criminal case. Throughout the investigation and proceedings he has been cooperative, respectful and compliant.

“He has substantial ties to his family and community, including children who depend on him for emotional and financial support. Granting him bond would allow him to continue caring for his family and fulfilling his responsibilities while still subject to the Court’s supervision.”

Combs is facing up to 20 years behind bars after being found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He’s set to be sentenced on October 3rd.
