Samuel L Jackson shares post labelling Argentina “one of, if not the most racist countries in the world”
Samuel L Jackson has shared a post on social media that brands Argentina a “racist” country.
Jackson shared the post, originally made by the SEC Black Alumni Network, on Instagram Stories, before the FIFA World Cup final that saw Spain overcome Argentina’s gamesmanship to win 1-0 thanks to a Ferran Torres goal.
The Instagram Story, re-posted by Jackson, features an AI-generated version of his character Stephen from Django Unchained in an Argentina jersey.
It was captioned, “Dear Black People… Please do not cheer or root for Argentina to win the FIFA World Cup. Argentina has historically been one of, if not the most racist countries in the world.”
The post continued, “‘If you are a Black person cheering for Argentina, this is what you look like to me’. We hear you loud and clear.”
Notably, during the World Cup, FIFA launched an investigation after American streamer IShowSpeed appeared to be racially abused by an Argentina fan during their game against Cape Verde on July 3rd in Miami.
Jackson’s social media post has caused a stir in Argentina. Rebeca Freitas, who was a legislator in Buenos Aires between 2021 and 2025, took to X to call him “ignorant and a liar” in response.
Her post continued, “In my country, Black people NEVER had to sit at the back of a bus to avoid mixing with white people due to racial segregation.”
Freitas also told her followers to boycott “any movies starring Samuel L Jackson” and said that the actor should “look at the US’s own history before pointing fingers at Argentina”.
Jackson has previously spoken extensively about racism in the United States. In a 2023 interview with Rolling Stone, he said, “When I see Trump, I see the same rednecks I saw when I was growing up who called me ‘n*****’ and tried to keep me in my place. That’s what the Republican Party is to me.”
The Pulp Fiction star also said of his childhood in a segregated society, “When I grew up in segregation, I knew which white people didn’t want to be bothered with me and I knew how they felt about me.”
