Liam Gallagher likens the World Cup final half-time show to “a bad trip”
Liam Gallagher has given his damning analysis of the World Cup final half-time show, which he compared to “a bad trip”.
For the first time in history, the World Cup final saw a variety of acts take to the stage at the interval, which, as a result, lasted almost twice as long as the rules allow.
The bizarre performance saw Madonna joined by Brazilian footballing icons Ronaldinho and Ronaldo Nazario to deliver a rendition of ‘Music’, while Jason Sudeikis, as Ted Lasso, introduced Justin Bieber to the stage.
Other acts that performed at the ceremony include Shakira, BTS, and Coldplay, who were joined by the PS22 Chorus, as well as an unexpected appearance from The Muppets.
Liam Gallagher spoke for millions when he gave his take on the strange show, taking to X to write, “This is like a bad trip”.
In a follow-up post, he replied to a fan to describe the show as “absolutely insane behavior it’s cuckoo with a capital K”.
Gallagher also hilariously wrote on the same platform, “It’s a good job I’ve got my spiritual socks on or that halftime entertainment could have tipped me over the edge.”
However, one act that did impress him was Justin Bieber, who didn’t delve into any theatrics with his performance of ‘Hallelujah’ and was simply armed with an acoustic guitar. After he took to the field, Gallagher posted, “Justin rules”.
BBC pundit Wayne Rooney, when asked on air, epitomised the thoughts of those at home when he said of the show, “I like a lot of them artists but I thought it was crap. It just didn’t get me going and I wanted the football to come back on.”
Last week, The Cure’s Robert Smith shared his less-than-complimentary thoughts on the half-time final show, calling FIFA chief Gianni Infantino “Gianni Infantosser” and writing “please just fuck off” on Instagram.
Additionally, Liam’s brother Noel was another dissenting voice, previously saying he won’t be watching the half-time shenanigans even though he was attending the game, before adding, “They’re not really football people who are performing anyway, are they?”
