Sammy Hagar shares message of support after David Lee Roth quietly axes tour dates
Sammy Hagar has unexpectedly issued a message of support for David Lee Roth, who has quietly cancelled a series of tour dates.
While the two former Van Halen frontmen have had their fair share of back-and-forths over the years, Hagar’s latest move appears to be sincere.
It comes after Roth, who has been on tour in North America since April, cancelled his remaining tour dates, which were due to keep him on the road until September.
In total, six dates have been affected, which are Dillon Ampitheatre on July 23rd, Louisville on July 28th, East Moline on July 31st, Lincoln on August 14th, and Laughlin on September 5th.
Per Roth’s website, he remains scheduled to perform at Buffalo Chip in Sturgis on August 7th, which is now the only tour date listed.
Roth has yet to issue a statement regarding the cancellation.
However, Dillion Ampitheatre said of the July 23rd show, “We understand this is disappointing and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you for your understanding and for your continued support of the Dillon Amphitheater.”
They also confirmed that ticket-holders would be automatically refunded.
While Roth is yet to address the situation, Hagar has taken to social media to wish him well in an Instagram video, stating, “Hey Dave, Sammy here. I just got a call from Michael Anthony as I’m sitting down having my favourite cocktail, I don’t have to tell you what this is, about your tour getting cancelled.”
He added from the heart, “And I wanna say from the bottom of my heart, I’m sorry. I hope you’re well. I hope there’s not a physical problem.”
Hagar went on to say that he loves that they are both touring songs from the catalogue of “the greatest band in the world that we were both part of”, before adding, “When you’re ready to carry on, you go, brother. Mike and I support you.”
Furthermore, Hagar also invited Roth to join him on-stage at his residency in Las Vegas in September, asking, “Come out and just do what the fuck you do, which is pretty damn entertaining. Anyway, hope you’re well, I really do. God bless, brother.”
Hagar himself has made adjustments to his touring schedule this summer, downsizing venues for his first UK tour in 30 years, which he admitted was due to ticket sales, saying, “Guilty as charged — we didn’t sell it out.“
