Sacha Baron Cohen confirms title and release date for new Ali G movie
Sacha Baron Cohen has confirmed that Ali G will return in the Amazon MGM Studios film Ali G: Who Iz I? this October 23rd.
More than two decades since the veteran actor last visited the classic character, Cohen made the exciting announcement as the fictional character, delivering an address to fans in an Instagram video.
“Dey haz finally made a documentary about me,” Cohen shared in the caption of the popular social media video.
He added, “And it ain’t dat crap one about da penguins, dis one haz got at least twice as much animal sex. ‘Ali G: Who Iz I?’ Cominatcha on 10.23 wotever dat means.”
Cohen will make his directorial debut on the new movie for a character that has followed him throughout many stages of his career.
The Staines native was first introduced to audiences on The 11 O’Clock Show in 1998, which led to him securing his own spin-off show, Da Ali G Show, which had three seasons in the early 2000s. From there, the first Ali G film, Ali G Indahouse, arrived in 2002.
The star has certainly been testing the waters with his comedic bits. Earlier this month, Baron Cohen appeared at the Wimbledon finals dressed as Ali G.
The star attempted to sell as much marijuana as possible during the tense match: “And if u iz at dis borin wimbledore final lookin 2 get grand slammed, I iz here wif de hookup,” he shared on Instagram.
Before then, he revived the well-known character on The Tonight Show in 2024, when he attempted to moderate a pseudo-debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
Reflecting on the character, who is a suburban white Brit who imitates Black culture, during an episode of WTF with Marc Maron in 2016, Cohen claimed that his character study “couldn’t really exist”. He elaborated, “Part of Ali G was an attempt, subtly, to slightly undermine the establishment.”
Official plot details for the forthcoming release have been kept under wraps.
