Sabrina Carpenter addresses album controversy and performs two hit singles on ‘SNL’

Sabrina Carpenter has pulled off the double-act of hosting and also featuring as the musical act on Saturday Night Live.

The singer, who recently topped the charts with her album Man’s Best Friend, appeared as a musical guest in May 2024 but has never hosted before. On October 18th, the pop superstar opened with a monologue that reminisced, “Last time I was here for the 50th anniversary, where I got to sing with Paul Simon, and since then my new album, Man’s Best Friend, came out.”

She added, “Some people got a little, like, freaked out by the cover. I’m not sure why. It was just this,” she laughed, as the show cut to the controversial album cover, which depicts the Disney star on all fours, with an unfaced figure pulling at her hair.

“What they don’t realise is this is just how they’ve cropped it. If you zoom out, it’s clearly a picture from the 50th anniversary special of Bowen helping me up by the hair, after Martin Short shoved me out of the buffet line,” She finished.

Carpenter didn’t shy away from engaging in other cultural discussions about her image, either. She joked, “I want to clear up some misconceptions people have about me. Everyone thinks of me as this horndog pop star. But there’s really so much more to me. I’m not just horny. I’m also turned on, and sexually charged, and I love to read.”

Later in the show, Carpenter performed two singles from her recent album. While performing ‘Man Child’, the star began getting ready in her bedroom, singing into a microphone that looked like a hairbrush.

While performing ‘Nobody’s Son’, the star was backed by dancers engaging in karate lessons. As the song went on, she began to engage in the exercise, chopping at a board that was presented to her and karate kicking a dancer.

On October 4th, Bad Bunny was granted hosting duties for the second time. Unlike his last appearance in 2023, the Puerto Rican star didn’t pull double duty again, as Doja Cat served as the musical guest. On October 11th, Amy Poehler had hosting duties, while Role Model acted as the musical guest and brought out Charli XCX.
