Ryan Gosling in talks to star in Shawn Levy’s upcoming ‘Star Wars’ movie
Ryan Gosling is reportedly in talks to star in Shawn Levy’s new Star Wars movie, which Levy and scriptwriter Jonathan Tropper have been working on since 2022.
While details surrounding the movie, including its cast, plot, and release date, have remained under wraps, it’s expected that it will blend nostalgic elements with new ones, bolstered by a host of established and fresh-faced actors to enhance the broad appeal of the Star Wars franchise.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the only certainty so far is that the film will remain separate from the Skywalker saga, which centres on the extensively explored narrative of Luke Skywalker and his father, Anakin.
As a result, the movie will be a standalone project. The publication states Gosling is set to join the cast following previous talks about Levy reuniting with the actor on another project until his interest charged the Star Wars project into action. Should the movie materialise, it would be the next Star Wars movie to hit the big screen after the forthcoming release of The Mandalorian and Grogu in May 2026.
Gosling’s involvement would be one of the only occasions when an established Hollywood actor has stepped into a galaxy far, far away. Historically, actors have been lesser known, allowing the storylines to remain character-driven without any pre-existing celebrity distraction.
However, given Gosling’s unique reputation and established versatility, his role is likely to spark a fresh dynamic within the Star Wars universe, aligning with Levy’s suspected plan to bridge the gap between old conventions and new appeal.
Gosling’s decision to appear in Star Wars would also signal a turning point in the actor’s career, setting him on a path towards franchise territory like many of his established acting counterparts. While he has starred in several major blockbusters over the years, including the more recent Greta Gerwig-helmed Barbie, his Star Wars venture marks his first foray into a longstanding cinematic universe.
The actor’s next project is slated to be Project Hail Mary, an upcoming science epic from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller based on Andy Weir’s book. Should Gosling’s Star Wars stint go ahead, Project Hail Mary will likely provide the ideal foundation for the actor’s impending journey into the coveted intergalactic realm, proving his prowess for excelling in science fiction cinema.
