Russell Brand pleads not guilty to latest rape and sexual assault charges
Russell Brand has pleaded not guilty to a charge of rape and another of sexual assault.
On February 23rd, Brand appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London to plead not guilty to the two new charges, which are both alleged to have taken place in 2009.
Brand was charged with the two alleged offences in December.
He is also facing a further count of indecent assault, two counts of sexual assault, and two counts of rape, which he was charged with in 2025 and has previously pled not guilty to.
The comedian was originally charged with five alleged offences in April 2025, which are alleged to involve four women between 1999 and 2005.
In total, Brand has pled not guilty to three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault.
Brand only spoke in Southwark Crown Court to confirm his name and his not guilty plea.
The 50-year-old, who now lives in Florida, has consistently denied engaging in any non-consensual behaviour.
After the initial five charges, he said in a video posted on social media, “I was a drug addict, sex addict and imbecile, but what I never was was a rapist. I never engaged in non-consensual activity. I pray you can see that by looking in my eyes.”
The Metropolitan Police launched an investigation into the comic after The Sunday Times, The Times, and Channel 4 aired allegations against him in an episode of Dispatches in 2023 involving rape, sexual assaults, and emotional abuse, which Brand strongly denies.
A trial has been set for June in relation to the original five charges.
