Russell Brand charged with two further counts of rape and sexual assault
Russell Brand has been charged with two further counts of rape and sexual assault as part of an ongoing police investigation against him.
The Metropolitan Police in London confirmed the news on December 23rd, noting that the charges relate to two further women in addition to the charges against four women that he was first accused of in April this year.
Previously, the comedian and actor was charged with one count of indecent assault, two counts of sexual assault, and two counts of rape. Brand has denied all the allegations against him and pleaded not guilty to the earlier charges.
In terms of the two new charges, the first relates to a count of rape against one woman, said to have taken place between February 7th and March 1st, 2009. The second is a count of sexual assault against a different woman, said to have taken place between August 31st and December 1st of the same year.
It has been confirmed that he will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on January 20th, 2026, to enter his plea in relation to the two fresh charges.
Brand is already set to appear at Southwark Crown Court from June 16th, 2026, as the trial for the five previous charges is set to begin.
In light of the news of the fresh charges, a new appeal for witnesses has been issued by the Metropolitan Police’s lead investigator on the case, Tariq Farooqi, who said: “The women who have made reports, including those connected to the two new charges, continue to receive support from specially trained officers.”
He added: “The Met’s investigation remains ongoing, and detectives urge anyone affected by this case, or anyone with information, to come forward and speak with police. Support is also available through the independent charity Rape Crisis by contacting the 24/7 Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Line.”
Allegations against Brand first emerged in August 2023 following an investigation from The Times, The Sunday Times, and Channel 4’s Dispatches, prompting the police to launch their own probe.
Brand has repeatedly denied all the allegations against him since they first surfaced. He has not yet responded to the news of the fresh charges.
