Rod Stewart cancels Las Vegas residency gig ahead of Glastonbury
Rod Stewart has postponed his latest gig of his current run at Las Vegas’ Caesar’s Palace, mere weeks before he is set to take to the stage at Glastonbury.
The singer took to Instagram Stories on June 1st to announce that his concert on June 2nd would no longer be going ahead due to health reasons, explaining: “I am sorry to inform you that I’m not feeling well and my show tonight at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace is being rescheduled to June 10 th,” before adding, “Your tickets will be valid for the new date. Sir Rod.”
Although Stewart did not reveal any details as to the nature of his illness, it seems at the moment that his upcoming performance in the Glastonbury Legends slot on June 29th will not be affected, in which he will join The 1975, Olivia Rodrigo, and Neil Young as one of the main headliners.
It comes after the 80-year-old rocker previously confirmed that his former Faces bandmate Ronnie Wood will be joining him on stage at Worthy Farm, having hinted that the band are getting back together to record new material for the first time in over half a century, since their last album Ooh La La was released in 1973.
Despite Stewart rescheduling his Caesar’s Palace date, he is set to return to the venue and continue his residency in the coming months, with a string of six gigs lined up across the course of September and October this year.
Amid a successful streak, on May 27th, the singer became the recipient of the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ at the American Music Awards, where he claimed in his speech that he was “flabbergasted” by his surprise win.
He said at the time: “When I started singing in the early ‘60s, well before all of you lot were here, the reason I got into it was because I had this burning ambition to sing. That’s all I wanted to do. I didn’t want to be rich or famous, and so many years later, I’m here.”
