Rod Stewart reveals plans to become the fastest 80-year-old in history: “I’m trying”
Rod Stewart has revealed his ambition to become the fastest 80-year-old over a distance of 100 metres in history.
Currently, the record for the quickest 100 metres from a person over the age of 80 belongs to Kenton Brown, who successfully ran the distance in 14.21 seconds at the Nevada Senior Games in Las Vegas last November.
While Stewart isn’t close to bettering Brown’s time currently, he’s working hard to put himself in a position to do so and has a running track installed at his Grade II-listed property in England.
The singer told the Radio Times in a new interview: “I can do it in 19 seconds and the record for an 80-year-old is 14 seconds. I’ll never get it to that. But I’m trying.”
He also opened up about his training methods, sharing: “There’s all the little techniques — where you put your arms and where they finish. How high you can get your heels to your bum. They could knock a second off. I’m working on that.”
Stewart is also in the process of “learning how to push off” which he believes will help him on his quest to shave down his time.
Elsewhere, in the same interview with the Radio Times, Stewart looked ahead to Glastonbury. He will play the legend’s slot on the Pyramid Stage on June 29th, and said of the show: “It’s difficult because they only gave me an hour-and-a-quarter slot. So I begged them: can I do another 15 minutes? Because usually I play for two hours.”
Stewart added: “It means that there’s a lot of songs that people love that I won’t be able to play – and I’ve got three guests coming on.”
While Stewart didn’t reveal who would be joining him for the performance, he let slip during a recent appearance on the Peter Crouch Podcast that his Faces bandmate Ronnie Wood would be one of the guests.
Stewart also compared Glastonbury to a “cup final”, adding, “You’re trying to treat it like another game. But, of course, it’s not. It’s special.”
Glastonbury Festival is set to take place between June 27th and June 29th. Far Out will be on the ground at Worthy Farm to deliver coverage from the event.
