Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2025: Phish win fan poll while Oasis fail to secure 100,000 votes
American rock band Phish have come out triumphant in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame fan vote, winning by a clear margin of 50,000 votes above Bad Company who came second.
Billy Idol came third in the fan vote, with 281,000 votes. Idol recently told The Independent that he deserves the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame vote “because I’m fucking incredible!” Though he came third in the fan vote, Idol is still in for a chance of being inducted this year.
Cyndi Lauper came in fourth with 237,000, and Joe Cocker finished fifth with 234,000 votes from fans. Soundgarden came in sixth with 233,000, slightly above Chubby Chucker, who brought in 203,000.
The Black Crowes’ were next with 165,200 votes, followed by a dip which saw Mariah Carey in ninth place with 138,000.
Joy Division and New Order received 120,500 votes, the White Stripes received 110,500, and OutKast received 108,000. Those under the 100,000 vote threshold include Oasis, whose 99,500 votes come as a shock despite their sold-out reunion tour which will see them perform in-front of millions this year.
In last place is Latin rock band Maná, though they have reason to celebrate; they have become the first Spanish-language act to be nominated for a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame award.
From this point, a panel of 1,200 figures from the music industry will conduct the voting. The results of the fan vote are precisely equal to one ballot, in total, so have limited sway. The winner will be announced on April 26th.
Though Phish have never appeared on the ballot before, they have been eligible in previous years. Bad Company, The Black Crowes, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Maná, and OutKast are also first-time qualifiers. Maná have become the first Spanish-language act with a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination.
To qualify for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a band or artist must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years ago.
