Robert Smith has confirmed plans to release a new album with The Cure.
The record, which will be the first new release in ten years, follows that of 2008’s 4:13 Dream. The news comes off the back of the announcement that The Cure will be inducted into the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Smith, who is the only remaining original member of the band, joined SiriusXM Volume morning show to discuss his plans. While he didn’t reveal any details of the record itself, he did confirm his ambitions to release it before the Rock Hall ceremony on March 29, 2019.
“Seeing all these new bands—I’ve listened to some of these bands and met so many of them that it’s kind of inspired me to do something new,” he said. “So, yes, we’re going in about six weeks time to finish off what will be our first album in more than a decade. It’s very exciting times for us all around.”
