‘Primetime’, starring Robert Pattinson and Phoebe Bridgers, set for September release

Primetime, a new film from Lance Oppenheim starring Robert Pattinson and Phoebe Bridgers, is set for release this September, it has been revealed.

The film is set to follow Pattinson in the lead role as a journalist forced to confront an underworld of crime as part of an investigation, and changes the face of the television landscape in the process.

It is based on the real story of Dateline NBC host Chris Hansen, who in the early 2000s confronted men who had hidden cameras in a sting house, where they would have sex with minors.

Although the film has been announced as being in the works since 2024, with documentary filmmaker Oppenheim making his fiction narrative movie directorial debut, it has now been announced that Primetime will hit screens later this year.

It comes as Deadline reported that the Indian streaming service Lionsgate Play is now making a push towards the Hollywood landscape, with Primetime among a number of major film releases it is behind this year.

However, the film is also particularly significant due to Bridgers making her acting debut, having remained out of the spotlight since the release Boygenius ended their touring schedule in 2023.

It had been speculated that the singer could be due to release new music at some point in 2026, although it is not known how Primetime will now affect those potential plans.

Alongside Bridgers and Pattinson, the rest of the cast for the film is rounded out by Merritt Weaver, Skyler Gisondo, Matthew Maher, and Sean Bridgers, the latter of whom is of no relation to Bridgers herself.

The film was reportedly shot between February and March 2025 in New Orleans, with Pattinson producing the movie alongside Ari Aster through his company Square Peg Productions.

For Pattinson, Primetime is set to mark his fifth major film release in 2026 alone, with him also appearing in The Drama, The Odyssey, Dune: Part Three, and Here Comes the Flood.
