Robert Pattinson confirms ‘The Batman 2’ will start filming in 2025
At the world premiere of Mickey 17 in London on February 13th, Bong Joon Ho’s new film, Robert Pattinson revealed that The Batman: Part II will begin production at the end of this year.
The premiere took place at Leicester Square, with Pattinson not disclosing any details about the plot while speaking to reporters on the red carpet. When asked about the project by Variety, the actor said, “I think at the end of the year? And I know what it’s about but I can’t tell anyone, but it’s like, it’s very cool. It’s very exciting.”
Mickey 17 is the next film from the Academy Award-winning director of Parasite, which swept up at the Oscars in 2020. Pattinson stars in the film as Mickey Barnes, a future pastry chef who becomes an expendable employee on a space mission. However, the job requires him to die repeatedly, becoming “reprinted” after each death.
There is also a love story between Mickey and another character called Nasha, played by Naomi Ackie, with the film exploring themes relating to human identity, survival and class disparity.
The screenplay was adapted from the novel titled Mickey7 by Edward Ashton, but with significant changes from the original source material.
During his red carpet interviews, Pattinson discussed the challenges of playing both Mickey 17 and 18, saying, “You’re basically doing the same as you would do in front of a green screen… You’re kind of imagining the other character there, but you’re just hoping you did it right.”
Bong described the project also, explaining, “It’s a sci-fi film with alien planets and creatures, but the one thing that was really new to me was the love story between Mickey and Nasha, between Rob and Naomi. That was the biggest new challenge for me with this film. Rob plays Mickey 17 and 18, and especially with 18, just the explosive energy and the madness in his eyes, I can’t even like imitate that those eyes that he gave for his performance, it was quite surprising and so memorable”.
