Ringo Starr reveals what to expect from new duet with Paul McCartney: “It’s really great”

Ringo Starr has lifted the lid on his upcoming duet with Paul McCartney, titled ‘Home to Us’.

The forthcoming track is set to appear on McCartney’s new album The Boys of Dungeon Lane, which is scheduled to arrive on May 29th, 2026.

However, Starr, who is set to release his own new solo album Long Long Road on April 24th, revealed on an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live that ‘Home to Us’ originally started life as one of his songs, before McCartney transformed it under his own vision.

The Beatles drummer shared, “Where it came from is so crazy, because the producer of that record (Andrew Watt) lives just down the block, and I went down, and there’s a kit in his studio. He played guitar and we jammed.”

Then, Starr shared that he “started making a record” of his own and proceeded to contact Watt to send him over the recordings; however, the producer “never did”.

While Starr wondered where the recording had gone, he later discovered that it had been used for a McCartney song, which he then lent his voice to for a duet.

He added, “Underneath the duo that Paul and I do, the song, it started with my drums from that day two years ago, then Paul got the song and put everything else on it, so it was like it was in reverse as the drums are on first.”

Reflecting on the song itself, Starr promised, “It’s really great, and it’s amusing, it’s very real because that’s where it comes from.”

During a recent event for the album in Los Angeles, McCartney gave his perspective on the song’s creation.

As per BillboardMcCartney explained, “I saw Ringo and said I worked with this guy Andrew [Watt]. Ringo came over to Andrew’s studio and played a little bit of drums.”

At that point, Starr thought he’d given Watt enough to create a song, but was “a bit pissed,” according to McCartney, that it was deemed there wasn’t enough material to work with.

From there, McCartney sent the demo to Starr and requested his vocals. Misunderstanding, Starr only sang the chorus, which made his former bandmate anxious that he didn’t like the song.

Thankfully, The Beatles duo eventually came together, added more drums, and completed the track to everyone’s delight. “Ringo’s never done a duet with one of the Beatles,” McCartney also noted of the landmark recording.
