‘Home To Us’: Ringo Starr confirmed to appear on new Paul McCartney album
Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are teaming up for a song on the forthcoming album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane.
On May 29th, the iconic Beatle is set to release his first album since 2020’s McCartney III, which is said to unearth untold memories from his past and is slated as his “most introspective album to date”.
As per Billboard, the album will also include the song ‘Home To Us’, a duet between McCartney and Starr, which will see them trade vocals line by line.
Discussing the somewhat discombobulated creation of the track, McCartney has shared, “I saw Ringo and said I worked with this guy Andrew [Watt]. Ringo came over to Andrew’s studio and played a little bit of drums,” he explained.
At that point, Starr thought he’d given Watt enough to create a song, but was “a bit pissed,” McCartney says, when it wasn’t turned out that there wasn’t enough material to work with, despite McCartney likinig Starr’s contribution, as it was reminiscinent of their early days in Liverpool: “Even though where we lived was a little rough, it was home to us,” McCartney said.
From there, McCartney sent the demo to Starr and requested his vocals. Misunderstanding, Starr only sang the chorus, which made his former bandmate anxious that he didn’t like the song.
However, the friends eventually came together, added more drums, and completed the track. “Ringo’s never done a duet with one of the Beatles,” McCartney mused.
‘Home To Us’ also includes contributions from Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders and Sharleen Spiteri of Texas.
Last month, the 83-year-old shared the first single of the project, ‘Days We Left Behind’, soaring back in time to the “smoky bars and cheap guitar” that characterised his youth.
Starr’s 22nd solo studio album, ‘Long Long Road’, will be released on April 24th and includes a handful of collaborations with the likes of St. Vincent, Sheryl Crow, and Billy Strings.
