Ringo Starr calls ‘Now And Then’ number one “incredible”

The Beatles drummer Ringo Starr has said it’s “incredible” that the band’s final track ‘Now And Then’ reached number one on the charts.

Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney and George Harrison initially attempted to bring the song to life in 1995. However, they were unsuccessful as they felt they could not do so in an acceptable way that would not dampen their legacy. However, thanks to technological developments, Starr, McCartney and co-producer Giles Martin were recently able to revisit the project, despite Harrison passing away in 2001.

Accordingly, ‘Now And Then’ arrived as the final Beatles song on November 2nd and features input from all four members, including frontman John Lennon, who was murdered in 1980. This also led to Giles Martin being forced to deny using artificial intelligence when bringing Lennon’s vocals up to date.

On November 10th, it was announced that The Beatles had made history again, with ‘Now And Then’ topping the UK Charts. It is their first number one since 1969’s ‘The Ballad of John and Yoko’. The 54-year gap eclipsed the previous record set by Kate Bush in 2022 when ‘Running Up That Hill’ gave her her first chart-topper in 44 years.

On November 11th, Ringo Starr took to Twitter to react to the news. “What’s happening it’s all happening number one in England UK incredible a few more facts will come on the screen”, he captioned a video. “Peace and love everybody. It’s a beautiful day.”

The video, which was backed by the music of ‘Now And Then’ displayed a slideshow of photographs and clips from across The Beatles’ career, displaying the successful statistics of the song since its release. At one point, the words appear on the screen: “Beatlemania is BACK”.
