Riley Keough addresses hopes for ‘Daisy Jones and the Six’ season two
The popularity of Prime Video mini-series Daisy Jones and the Six prompted intense speculation about a potential second season, which is based on Tara Jenkin Reid’s best-selling novel.
The series stars Riley Keough as Daisy Jones, chronicling her journey through the 1970s Los Angeles music scene with her bandmates. The show, along with Keough and Camila Morrone, earned Emmy nominations following its success. However, the programme’s return looks uncertain.
Keough recently discussed the notion of a second season, telling Variety that, while she would wholeheartedly be up for a follow-up chapter, she doesn’t “know if it’s in the cards” because she hasn’t “heard anything.”
Although this may seem disappointing, showrunner Scott Neustadter hinted at the possibility of a second season shortly after the first season premiered, telling Variety that “if people are interested in this story and these people, maybe we’ll get an opportunity to do that. Leave the door open.”
The show goes far beneath the surface of the music industry, touching upon various aspects of high-profile artists to create an accurate and hard-hitting version of the ’70s music scene. In one scene, for instance, Keough pays a touching tribute to her grandfather, Elvis Presley, by wearing a guitar strap that was once used during Presley’s comeback.
The show also caught the attention of Stevie Nicks, who said that it felt like an uncanny reflection of her own life within Fleetwood Mac, and revealed she had seen it on multiple occasions. The similarities between the series and Nicks’ relationship with Lindsey Buckingham are clear, but what particularly struck Nicks was how much Christine McVie would have loved watching it.
Describing her experience as “a ghost watching my own story”, Nicks said “I just wish Christine could have seen it. She would have loved it. Hopefully it will continue…”
Reese Witherspoon was one of the producers on the show, and shared her appreciation for Nicks’ admiration by commenting: “Oh my stars, Stevie !! This means the world to the whole team! Thank YOU for cutting the path!”.
Prime Video has yet to renew the programme for another series, and while it’s yet to be in the works, this could all change in the future considering Keough’s interest.
