Richard Ashcroft announces new album, ‘Lovin’ You’, ahead of Oasis tour

Richard Ashcroft has announced his new album, Lovin’ You, ahead of beginning his record-breaking jaunt with Oasis later this week.

Lovin’ You is The Verve’s frontman’s seventh solo studio release, and is set to be released on October 3rd. Ashcroft co-produced the album, which contains the recent single ‘Lovin’ You’, alongside collaborators Chris Potter and Emre Ramazanoglu.

The album will be released on standard black vinyl, but there is also a neon orange vinyl available from Ashcroft’s official store, and a blue version will be available exclusively from select independent record stores.

The lead single, ‘Lover,’ is the only track currently available from the pending release. It interpolates Joan Armatrading’s ‘Love And Affection’. She said of Ascroft’s reimagining of her classic effort: “I love how he’s used my song, and I love his song.”

More tracks are likely to be debuted by Ashcroft when he takes to the road with Oasis this summer for their reunion tour, which begins on July 4th at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. The former Verve frontman will be the main support act during all shows in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

During a recent appearance on Radio X, Ashcroft looked ahead to the tour, sharing, “I said to Noel, I think I’m the only person who could go in this slot, especially for a huge outdoor show. Because everyone wants you lot, and unless you’re coming with something and unless you have something to offer, I don’t know what’s gonna happen.”

Ashcroft then turned his attention to his relationship with the band over the years: “I’ve been there almost in that whole story right from the day one, before the first album came out. They were mega successful before I was. They did everything first. They were on top of the pops; by the time it was my turn, it’s like yeah, but they’ve been all over it!”

Lovin’ You is set for release on October 3rd.
