Release date revealed for ‘The Last of Us’ season two
After season one of The Last of Us had the world hooked in 2023 when the video game was adapted to television for HBO, season two is now officially set to arrive in the next few months.
Based on the video game of the same name, The Last of Us is a zombie story which is set twenty years into a pandemic caused by a mass fungal infection. The disease causes people to transform into zombie-like creatures and has sparked the complete collapse of society as we know it.
In addition, The Last of Us became revered for its emotional core. The show followed Pedro Pascal as Joel, who is tasked with safely transporting a teenager, Ellie, who is naturally immune to the infection, across the US.
With Ellie played by Bella Ramsey in her breakout role, it was the interactions between these two characters that hooked viewers. Both actors won Critics Choice awards for their roles and the show itself won several awards.
The opening season became HBO’s most-viewed debut series of all time. Now, it’s been confirmed the second season of The Last Of Us will arrive on April 13th, 2025.
The second instalment of the show is also based on the second instalment of the video game, The Last of Us: Part II. This new season takes place five years after the first.
It also introduces a cast of new names and characters. Kaitlyn Dever joins the show as Abby, and Catherine O’Hara is billed to guest star in an as-yet undisclosed role. Both Pascal and Ramsey return to their leading roles as the show once again follows Joel and Ellie’s bid to survive.
