‘The Last Of Us’ creator Craig Mazin says there “won’t be more Bill and Frank”
Craig Mazin, writer and creator of The Last Of Us, has stated that beloved characters Bill and Frank will not return in season two or in a spin-off series.
Played by Nick Offerman and Murray Barlett, respectively, the love story between Bill and Frank featured in the third episode of the first season. After picking up an Emmy for ‘Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series’, Offerman shared his thoughts on a potential spin-off series about the pair.
“It certainly has been pitched. I think we pitched a whole mini-series of a prequel of their lives before they met each other,” he told Deadline. “It could be a musical,” he continued to joke, “we’re not short on ideas. We’ll see what Craig [Mazin] and Neil [Druckmann] come up with.”
Much to the disappointment of Bill and Frank fans, Mazin has now dispelled any hopes for a return to the characters. “I’m very proud of the episode we did with Bill and Frank,” he acknowledged at a post-Emmy party before stating, “there won’t be more Bill and Frank.’
“Nick was joking about a prequel,” he confirmed, “that was kind of a joke.” Mazin reiterated how pleased he was with the characters, concluding, “We are very happy with what we achieved.”
Little detail about the plot for the upcoming season of the video game adaptation have been shared, but the second instalment is now expected to arrive in 2025 due to strike delays. Production is set to start this year.
Alongside Offerman’s Emmy win, the show received 24 nominations in total for its first season and took home eight awards.
