Release date revealed for Luca Guadagnino’s ‘After the Hunt’

Amazon MGM has pencilled in a release date for Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming thriller After the Hunt, starring Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield.

The movie will have a limited rollout on October 10th, 2025, before expanding nationwide a week later on October 17th, 2025. This means it will open in cinemas on the same day as Ethan Hawke’s The Black Phone 2 and Lionsgate’s R-rated comedy Good Fortune, which stars Aziz Ansari, Seth Rogen, and Keanu Reeves.

After the Hunt is being pitched as a “gripping psychological drama” that follows Roberts as a professor who “finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a star pupil (Ayo Edebiri) levels an accusation against one of her colleagues (Garfield).”

As she tries to navigate these choppy waters, “a dark secret from her own past threatens to come to light.” The cast for the film also includes Chloë Sevigny (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story) and Michael Stuhlbarg (The Instigators).

The film reunites Guadagnino with the studio behind his previous efforts Challengers, Bones and All, and Suspiria. He most recently directed Queer with Daniel Craig, which landed the actor a Golden Globe nomination for ‘Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama.’ Guadagnino is also rumoured to be attached to an American Psycho remake.

All in all, then, it’s been a busy few years for the director, who told W magazine he wouldn’t have it any other way. “I try to always multitask, to follow both the horizontal and vertical vectors of time,” he revealed.

Guadgnino added: “Currently, I am producing three movies, I’m directing a new film very soon, I’m designing houses and hotels, and my movie After the Hunt comes out in the fall. I prefer to be busy, but film is my first love. Always, always!”
