Release date revealed for Clint Eastwood’s new movie ‘Juror No 2’

Most directors in the same age bracket as Clint Eastwood would be taking it as easy as possible and enjoying the perks of a well-lived life, but there’s a reason why the legendary actor and filmmaker is one of a kind.

The four-time Academy Award-winning star and filmmaker’s 40th feature from behind the camera, Juror No 2, wrapped shooting earlier this year and has officially confirmed not only when and where its world premiere will be held but also when the movie will arrive in cinemas.

When the dramatic legal thriller was first announced, much talk was about the courtroom story being Eastwood’s final contribution to cinema. However, things have gone a bit quiet on that front recently, so it can’t be ruled out that the 94-year-old legend may not be done with the industry just yet.

Nicholas Hoult plays the lead role as the title character, who realises he may have been at fault for the victim’s death in the trial he’s sitting on the jury for, placing him in the midst of a moral dilemma over whether or not he should come clean and turn himself in, or manipulate the jury to save his own skin.

Featuring a typically star-studded Eastwood ensemble, Hoult will be joined by JK Simmons, Toni Collette, Kiefer Sutherland, Zoe Deutch, Leslie Bibb, and more, with Juror No 2 set to premiere under very familiar surroundings for its director.

The AFI Film Festival will screen the film for the first time as its closing night showcase on October 27th, with Eastwood having previously debuted several other works, including Richard Jewell, American, Sniper, and J Edgar, during the festivities hosted by an organisation that presented him with a lifetime achievement award in 1996, just to illustrate how impressive his longevity has become.

“There is only one Clint Eastwood,” Chief Bob Gazzale shared in a statement. “And AFI is proud to present the world premiere of this next chapter in his historic canon. We are honoured to bring the community together once again – artists and audiences – to celebrate an American icon.”

Following the premiere, Warner Bros has confirmed that Juror No 2 will start a limited theatrical run on November 1st, which potentially places it in the thick of the awards season conversation.

What other movies are premiering at AFI Film Fest 2024?

The full lineup for the 2024 edition of the AFI Film Fest won’t be revealed in full until October 1st, but there are already several high-profile premieres confirmed in addition to Eastwood’s Juror No 2.

The festival will open with Laurent Bouzereau’s documentary Music by John Williams, with the George Lucas-founded Lucasfilm and Steven Spielberg-backed Amblin among the producing partners of a tribute to a composer who became synonymous with the best of both directors.

Robert Zemeckis’ latest dalliance with digital trickery will also debut when the world premiere of Tom Hanks and Robin Wright’s decade-spanning love story Here screens for the first time, with Netflix and Aardman getting in on the action with Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl.
