Release date confirmed for Robert Eggers’ ‘Nosferatu’

Robert Eggers‘ highly-anticipated upcoming movie Nosferatu will be released in cinemas across the United States on December 25th, 2024.

The film has been in the works for almost a decade, but Eggers didn’t begin shooting until earlier this year. Nosferatu is the second remake of F. W. Murnau’s 1922 silent original. Werner Herzog previously took on the story in 1979 when he made Nosferatu the Vampyre.

Eggers has recruited a star-studded cast for Nosferatu, which includes actors such as Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, Simon McBurney and Willem Dafoe.

Earlier this year, Eggers said of the film: “I’m trying to go beyond what I’m capable of. As always, it was a difficult shoot. Last night, we were doing a scene on a ship with a lot of rain and waves, and the rain deflector, which tries to blow rain out of the lens, was breaking down and fogging. I spent the past several days working only with Russian sailors on a boat.”

The director continued: “I’m so happy to have made The Northman first and to have learned what I learned. When I think about the production plan of Nosferatu that we had the first time around, I’m sure I would have somehow pulled it out of my butt, but it’s hard not to imagine it being a failure.”

He also discussed working with Dafoe again, noting: “Willem’s up for anything, and he’ll cut his arm off for the scene. He is a fucking pleasure to work with: he was in The Northman, he was in [the upcoming] Nosferatu, I hope I never made a movie without him.”

As of yet, no trailer has arrived for Nosferatu, but Murnau’s pioneering 1922 original is available to watch below.
