Red Hot Chili Peppers documentary set to arrive on Netflix
A new documentary centred on the early days of the Red Hot Chili Peppers will premiere on Netflix on March 20th.
The Rise of the Red Hot Chili Peppers promises to offer an intimate look at the band’s “gritty formative years” and the “singular vision of original guitarist, Hillel Slovak.”
The new project is directed by Ben Feldman, whose previous work includes Bug Out and Rich & Shameless.
In keeping with the usual style of the documentary format, interviews with Red Hot Chili Peppers members Flea and Anthony Kiedis, along with others close to Slovak, will explore the group’s early days in the LA music scene.
Additionally, the “deep bond of their childhood friendship” will be explored in greater detail than ever before.
Speaking on the new documentary, Feldman gushed, “It’s a true honor to partner with Netflix to bring The Rise of the Red Hot Chili Peppers to a global audience.”
He added earnestly, “At its heart, this is a deeply relatable story — about the friendships that shape our identities and the lasting power of the bonds forged in adolescence.”
Feldman went on, “What’s less relatable, of course, is that here those friends went on to create one of the greatest rock bands in history. I’m profoundly grateful to the band and to Hillel’s family for their trust and generosity, and to Netflix for helping bring this story to the world stage.”
The film will likely shed light on exactly how the formidable group has remained at the top of their game during a career spanning over four decades, during which they have sold more than 120 million records globally.
The ‘Can’t Stop’ rockers last released music in 2022, with full-length projects Unlimited Love and Return of the Dream Canteen. The band toured the albums extensively throughout 2023 and 2024, but hasn’t performed live since.
