Queens of the Stone Age announce ‘The Catacombs’ theatre tour
Queens of the Stone Age have announced an intimate North American tour called The Catacombs, which is set to take place later this year.
The band made the announcement on social media on June 23rd, describing the tour as “a limited series of very special one-night-only evenings at a curated selection of North America’s most historic theatres.”
They added that the setlist arrangements would be “Comprised of all-new arrangements crafted specifically for the occasion and enhanced by assembled ensembles, the end result will be a precious few unique and intimate performances unlike any previous QOTSA tour.”
The idea for the tour is evidently inspired by the Alive in the Catacombs film that Queens of the Stone Age released earlier this month, where they headed into the catacombs of Paris, flanked by a camera crew, to film a special concert experience, 200 miles below street level.
At the time of its announcement, frontman Josh Homme said the filmed gig was “the biggest audience we’ve ever played for,” adding, “If you’re ever going to be haunted, surrounded by several million dead people is the place. I’ve never felt so welcome in my life.”
The upcoming tour consists of 11 dates across the US and Canada, beginning on October 2nd in Chicago and culminating in New Orleans on November 21st.
Before the US tour commences, however, the band will also play a string of festivals across Europe this summer, including dates in the UK and Ireland in Portsmouth, Dublin, and Sheffield. The band also confirmed their tour would be extended with more European and UK dates to be announced in the near future.
Tickets for the North American dates of The Catacombs tour go on sale on June 27th at 10am local time.
