Pulp release new disco single, ‘Got To Have Love’
Pulp have returned with their second taste of the upcoming album More with a new single, ‘Got To Have Love’.
The track has a deeply personal meaning, stemming from Jarvis Cocker’s experience with intimacy. Of the song, the singer explained, “‘Love’ is a word I was unable to say until I was approaching 40. I listened to love songs all the time but couldn’t use the word in real life.”
Therefore, he reflects on the lyrics: “The words to this song are me having a word with myself about this state of affairs. I gave myself a real talking-to. I have now learnt how to say it whilst keeping a straight face. ‘You’ve got to have love’. Oh yes you have.”
Alongside the single, the band have released a music video directed by none other than their very own frontman. It pairs the song with footage from the iconic 1977 Wigan Casino documentary, directed by Tony Palmer.
Of the stylistic choice, Cocker says: “I love dancing & this is the best footage of dancing I’ve ever seen. I first saw it in Mark Leckey’s ‘Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore’ video.” For their first album in almost 24 years, it appears Pulp are ready to throw a party.
After the release of new album More on June 6th, the band will hit the road in the UK and Ireland. The run of dates will begin at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow on June 7th, before stopping by Dublin at the 3Arena on June 10th ahead of two dates at London’s O2 Arena on June 13th and 14th.
Their North American tour will span 11 dates in September, finishing with two nights at the Los Angeles Hollywood Bowl on 25th and 26th June.
