Andrew Scott stars in Sam Fender’s new video for ‘People Watching’
For the title track of his upcoming album, Sam Fender has teamed up with Irish actor Andrew Scott for a music video for ‘People Watching’. Perfectly paired with a track about grief, social injustice and watching the world go by, the new visuals are as moving as the lyrics.
Fender is no stranger to producing incredibly made music videos featuring an all-star cast. For ‘Spit Of You’ from his last record, he starred alongside Stephen Graham in the video. The visuals later took home the trophy for ‘Best Rock Video’ at the UK Music Video Awards. Even right back at the start of his career, his video for the breakthrough single ‘Dead Boys’ was a deeply cinematic visual to accompany the song about the male mental health crisis.
Now, for ‘People Watching’, Scott has been called in for a video directed by Stuart A McIntyre. As the song deals with the loss of a loved one, Scott has spoken about his personal connection to the track following the death of his mother in early 2024.
“Sam’s masterpiece of a song has become a true friend to me. Working on it was truly cathartic, and I’ll always be grateful to Sam for his extraordinary talent, and for the other artists who made this film, and of course to my mum, who I will hold in my heart til the day I die,” he said, referencing the song’s lyrics in his tribute to his mother.
Having Scott involved was also a big moment for Fender, who said, “I was so buzzing when I found out Andrew wanted to be involved—I’m a huge fan of his, and he was absolutely perfect for the role.”
The music video comes ahead of the release of People Watching, Fender’s third album, which is due out on February 21st.
