Prime Video Girl: Lily Allen documentary set for 2027 release
Lily Allen is riding high off the success of her latest album, West End Girl. Next up for the singer-songwriter is a documentary about her life and career, which Prime Video has officially teed up.
The streaming platform has tapped the untitled documentary, which aims to “offer an intimate portrait of the life and career of a global icon and voice of a generation.”
The project is likely to give more information about her fifth album, which marked her first project in seven years. Bolder still, the album was a brutal excavation of her failed marriage with Stranger Things actor David Harbour due to alleged infidelity on his part.
The documentary will be helmed by award-winning director Mat Whitecross, whose previous works include Oasis: Supersonic and Coldplay: A Head Full of Dreams.
Whitecross’ documentary “will chart Lily’s extraordinary journey, from the ‘Queen of MySpace’ who changed the rules of the music industry, to the cultural force she is today.”
The official synopsis adds, “As a pioneering woman in modern music, Lily’s sharp wit and candid storytelling directly paved the way for a generation of today’s biggest female artists.”
As per Prime Video, the documentary will launch in 2027 and will include “interviews with those who know her best”. It is currently unclear how much sway Allen will have in the creative process, or whether the content will include exclusive interviews with Allen.
The streamer is officially planning on including a theatrical release window for fans to see “Lily Allen as she’s never been seen before” on the big screen.
Allen is currently undertaking her international concert tour, where she plays the entire studio album chronologically, with no support act.
In the latest headlines, Allen was forced to downsize some shows in North America and even cancel her performance in Montreal, though the tour will still kick off at Madison Square Garden.
