David Harbour breaks silence on Lily Allen’s ‘West End Girl’: “It was weird”

Lily Allen’s ex-husband, David Harbour, found his whole personal life, including multiple counts of infidelity, serialised in her latest album, West End Girl. Now, he has broken his silence on the project.

After four years of marriage, Allen and the Stranger Things star separated in early 2025. In October last year, after only ten days in the studio, Allen released West End Girl, which charted the breakdown of their relationship after his request for an open marriage.

Since the release, Harbour has been tight-lipped about the critically acclaimed album, which Allen has toured throughout North America and the UK.

However, in a new interview with Variety, the 51-year-old admitted of the album, “It was weird”.

He quickly added, “I do believe that it is the privilege of every artist to use their experience to create art, and so I respect her for doing that.”

Harbour drew his boundary line there, adding, “I can’t really say that much more because it’s my private life. In spite of the fact that a lot of people don’t allow me a private life — I value it. And I also value the lives of the people that I interact with privately. I just won’t speak about that.”

Though the actor refused to single out and push back any of the claims made across the 14-track album, he added, “Stories are complex. And that’s why I say I respect her creation of art to channel her experience. It wasn’t my experience.

Around the time of West End Girl’s release, Allen insisted that it was never intended to be a “revenge album”.

Allen also clarified that the work was “not a cruel album”. She shared, “I don’t feel like I’m being mean. It was just the feelings I was processing at the time.”

Though the swift recording process allowed her to “viscerally go through the motions,” she didn’t stay furious for long. She added, “At the time, I was really trying to process things and that’s great in terms of the album, but I don’t feel confused or angry now. I don’t need revenge.”
