Oasis issue statement after fan dies at Wembley Stadium show

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed a man died at the Oasis concert at Wembley Stadium on August 2nd.

In a statement, issued on August 3rd, the police said: “A man – aged in his 40s – was found with injuries consistent with a fall. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.”

Officers at Wembley responded to reports of an incident, alongside assistance from London Ambulance Service and venue medics, at 22:20pm on August 2nd.

It’s believed the man fell from the upper tier of the 90,000-capacity stadium, which caused his death.

Oasis have since issued the following statement: “We are shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of a fan at the show last night. Oasis would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the person involved.”

The Metropolitan Police said of the incident: “The stadium was busy, and we believe it is likely a number of people witnessed the incident, or may knowingly or unknowingly have caught it on mobile phone video footage.”

They are also pleading with any witnesses to come forward with relevant information, adding, “If you have any information that could help us to confirm what happened, please call 101.”

Oasis are set to return to Wembley Stadium tonight (August 3rd) for their fifth show at the historic London stadium of the summer. Following additional dates in Ireland and Scotland, they will bring their reunion tour to North America before returning to Wembley for two more shows in late September.

Later this year, the Gallagher brothers will also visit Australia, South Korea, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and Chile.

This is a developing story.
