Oasis fans smash Wembley beer record at huge reunion shows
Oasis fans have smashed a Wembley record at their London round of reunion shows by drinking the most pints on a single evening.
The Manchester band returned to Wembley Stadium on July 25th, July 26th and 30th, and again on August 2nd and August 3rd. Then, once they return from North America later this year, Oasis will play two further shows at the London landmark in late September.
The iconic London venue welcomed eager Oasis fans with open arms, and, as reported by The Times, fans were overjoyed to be there. They consumed a record-breaking 250,000 pints, the most the venue has ever seen.
The numbers are significantly more than those sold at any other gig. Pints recorded at the Coldplay gigs reached around 120,000 per night. During Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, only 40,000 pint sales were recorded, though the crowd were younger than the Oasis attendees.
Wembley Stadium has a 90,000 capacity, meaning that Oasis fans drank an average of over three pints each. For pints priced at £8.20, the Wembley bars would have taken over £2million collectively.
The catering company North Delaware reported that this proved a significant challenge to the way they approached the event. Their services director detailed a “turf war” with the stadium’s cleaning and maintenance teams, as they required unused areas under escalators and cupboards into cold storage.
The quarter of a million pints meant that around 4,5000 kegs were moved in and out of the stadium at an incredible pace.
During their first of seven concerts at Wembley Stadium, Oasis made a tribute to the ‘Prince of Darkness’ Ozzy Osbourne, who passed away on July 22nd. The band unfurled a banner of Osbourne, in his 1970s heyday, on the stage during a performance of ‘Live Forever’. They previously unfurled a banner of the late Liverpool FC forward Diogo Jota during the same song on the opening night of the tour in Cardiff following his tragic passing.
