Phish begin Madison Square Garden residency: Here’s their setlist in full
There aren’t many bigger tours than Phish this summer in North America, which has now landed in New York City.
On July 22nd, the jam band took to the stage for the first time at Madison Square Garden in 2026, which is a venue extremely close to their hearts.
Remarkably, they have performed at the iconic venue more than 90 times across their lengthy career, first playing at Madison Square Garden all the way back in 1994.
Since 1995, they have performed on Madison Square Garden, albeit not every single year, on New Year’s Eve, which has become a tradition for the band.
Typically, these days, Phish will take over New York in those days when you don’t know what to do yourself between Christmas and New Year, playing on December 28th, 29th, 30th, and 31st.
Now, for the first time in three years, they are performing at MSG outside of the festive period, and will also perform at the venue on July 24th, 25th, 27th and 29th.
As is traditional with seeing Phish live, you never know what you’re going to get, which is why they are one of the most in-demand bands in North America, and the opening night at Madison Square Garden was no different.
With it being their 92nd performance at Madison Square Garden, they went back to their early days and played the kind of set they would have done in 1992.
While they did treat their fans to tracks like ‘Possum’, ‘Mike’s Song’, ‘Weekapaug Groove’ and closer ‘Run Like An Antelope’, which are as close as a live staple as you’re going to get from Phish, they also covered Foreigner’s ‘Cold As Ice’ and Syd Barrett’s ‘Love You’, the latter of which they hadn’t performed in a decade.
Other rarities that the night one crowd at Madison Square Garden witnessed include ‘Glide’, which was their set opener and they hadn’t played since 2021, as well as ‘The Vibration of Life’, a song that Phish hadn’t played in a live setting since 1996.
After their Madison Square Garden residency is finished, Phish will finish up their tour with two dates at Fenway Park in Boston and three shows at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Colorado.
Fingers crossed, Phish fans don’t upset any more law enforcement officials after Indiana police recently took to Facebook to write they were “disappointed in the number of people who showed up to engage in illicit behavior” at their concerts at the Ruoff Music Center earlier this month.
