Phil Collins was shocked by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction: “I didn’t expect it”

Back in 2010, Phil Collins was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with his band, Genesis; the pleasure is his once more in 2026, this time on solo grounds. The star has now opened up about the honour.

In conversation with Eddie Trunk on Sirius XM’s Trunk Nation, the beloved singer-songwriter reflected on the recent induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

When asked by Trunk if the induction was a “surprise”, Collins admitted, “Absolutely. Yeah, it was.”

Collins shared that he “always followed up” after his Genesis induction on “the results of who got in and who didn’t,” but the 75-year-old star “kind of thought that that was it for me.”

He added, “I didn’t expect it. And I’m very, very flattered and pleased that I was thought of, you know, and enough people on the panel. I guess it is—I don’t know how this thing works, but it’s very nice to be there, and I’m very pleased.”

Alongside Collins, a range of other icons will also join the class of 2026, including Iron Maiden, Luther Vandross, Wu-Tang Clan, and Joy Division/New Order, who are being inducted as one act.

Despite their firm commitment to bashing the industry accolade at every opportunity, 2025’s reunion stars, Oasis, have also been inducted. In reaction to the news, Liam Gallagher backtracked on his previous slander, posting on X: “Reverse psychology vibes in the area Oasis RnR hall of farmers I mean famers.”

Notable snubs from this year’s original list of nominees include Mariah Carey, Jeff Buckley, and Lauryn Hill.

Earlier this year, Collins provided an update on his health, revealing that he has” a 24-hour live-in nurse to make sure I take my medication as I should do,” after having “five operations on my knee.”

Despite his ailments, Collins had a positive message to share with the world, reflecting that he had no regrets about his career: “I wouldn’t have missed any of it for the world.”

It is yet to be confirmed whether Collins will be in attendance for his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, which will take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on November 14th.
