Pet Shop Boys announce new album ‘Nonetheless’

Pet Shop Boys have revealed the upcoming launch of their latest 10-track studio album, Nonetheless, scheduled to hit Parlophone Records on April 26th, 2024.

This album marks the duo’s first collaboration with producer James Ford, recognised for his past projects with artists such as Arctic Monkeys, Depeche Mode, Blur, Gorillaz, The Last Dinner Party and Simian Mobile Disco.

The announcement arrives along with the latest single ‘Loneliness’, which is available to stream digitally now, with a CD version set for release on February 16th, 2024.

Speaking to Zoe Ball on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast show, Neil Tennant described how the song came to fruition, explaining, “‘Loneliness’ is the last track we wrote for the album. Chris [Lowe] sent me this very beautiful track over. And I already had this, probably inspired by the lockdown situation, this lyric about loneliness which fitted with it very well. And, it’s quite an up sounding song with a lyric that starts off sad, but it turns around at the end.”

The music featured on Nonetheless is said to strike a balance between uplifting and reflective tones, blending electronic elements, live instruments, and orchestral arrangements. In the band’s words: “We wanted this album to be a celebration of the unique and diverse emotions that make us human. From the more dance-orientated tracks to the raw poignancy of the introspective ballads, with their beautiful string arrangements, each track tells a story and contributes to the overall narrative of the album.”

Along with the album, the duo also announced five special performances at London’s Royal Opera House in July. Those who pre-order the album will be given access to priority tickets for the shows.

Pet Shop Boys have experienced a notable resurgence as of late, marked by a series of live performances and heightened visibility of their music in contemporary culture. In addition to their appearance at Glastonbury, the duo embarked on a successful tour of the United States in 2022 as part of the co-headlining Unity tour with New Order.
