Pedro Pascal names his favourite sci-fi movies

Ever since he stole audiences’ hearts with his short yet unforgettable stint as Oberyn Martell in HBO’s Game of Thrones, Pedro Pascal has enjoyed an extraordinary decade filled with tremendous roles on both the big and small screen.

Honestly, it would feel fair to call Pascal a TV superstar, given that he has been involved in so many successful shows since his breakout role. Since Game of Thrones, he has famously portrayed Din Djarin in The Mandalorian, Joel Miller in HBO’s The Last of Us and DEA Agent Javier Pena in the Netflix series Narcos, and he’s nailed it in all of those roles. For his work in The Last of Us, Pascal became the second-ever Latino actor nominated for the Emmy for ‘Best Leading Actor in a Drama Series’, a moment that capped off a spectacular run of form.

Hollywood, on the other hand, hasn’t quite figured out what to do with him. Pascal has popped up in roles of terrible villains in several movies – specifically, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Wonder Woman 1984 and The Equalizer 2, in which he played a ‘twist’ villain so obvious it wasn’t even remotely funny. Still, Pascal’s career has only ever seemed to be going from strength to strength over the last few years and with many more roles on the horizon, including a part in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2, he most certainly isn’t slowing down. If anything, he’s just getting started.

Regarding his Star Wars role as Din Djarin / The Mandalorian, it recently emerged that Pascal no longer physically portrays the (usually masked) character and instead just voices him. Nonetheless, it seems likely that his starring turn in the beloved show, alongside his lead role as Joel Miller in The Last of Us, will go down as the actor’s most iconic performance. As such, Pascal will likely be an actor many associate with the sci-fi genre in the future.

Around the time Game of Thrones season four was released, several years before he played these roles and became a household name, he was asked what his favourite sci-fi movies are in a Reddit Q&A.

Pondering for a moment, the actor listed Ridley Scott’s Alien and James Cameron’s Aliens as stand-out sci-fi epics. Following it up, Pascal opted to include Children of Men by Alfonso Cuaron and Solaris, the undisputed masterpiece by Andrei Tarkovsky. Committing to his admiration for Solaris, he also cited the 2002 remake directed by Steven Soderbergh as part of his list.

Rounding off his sci-fi collection, Pascal also highlighted the TV show Battlestar Galactica as one of his favourites. This listing confirms that, aside from being a terrific actor, Pedro Pascal also has extraordinarily good taste in film.
