Watch Pedro Pascal and Dakota Johnson star in Celine Song’s ‘The Materialists’ trailer
The trailer for the upcoming film The Materialists, starring Pedro Pascal, Dakota Johnson, and Chris Evans has been released.
The romantic comedy, which is being produced by A24, follows the character Lucy (Johnson) in New York as she is stuck between the choice of two lovers – a wealthy man (Pascal) who describes her as “a unicorn, an impossible fantasy,” or her down-and-out former boyfriend (Evans) who is struggling to get by as a wannabe actor-turned-waiter.
It is being directed by Celine Song, as the follow up to her 2023 smash hit Korean-American drama Past Lives, which scooped her ‘Best Picture’ and ‘Best Original Screenplay’ nominations at the Oscars.
Now, Song returns to directing for the big screen with three of Hollywood’s current biggest actors leading the movie. She is also keeping with many of her previous filmmaking circles, however, with A24 having also been behind Past Lives.
On the creative team for The Materialists are Christine Vachon and Pam Koffler of Killer Films and 2AM’s David Hinojosa, alongside Song acting as producer.
It comes at a particularly rapturous time for main actor Pascal, who as well as starring in The Materialists is set to appear in the new superhero instalment of The Fantastic Four: First Steps this summer, not before the release of the second series of his smash hit HBO zombie drama The Last of Us next month.
The actor previously branded the hotly anticipated next chapter of the video game adaptation as having a “fucking heartbreaking” plot.
The Materialists will be released in the US on June 13th by A24, with international distributor Sony Pictures yet to confirm a date in other countries.
